A recent survey of 95 delegates to the Supercomputing Conference found that 83 percent of IT executives planned to keep their cloud computing initiatives behind their own firewalls. The survey also asked the group of respondents—which included IT executives from the research, manufacturing, government, and education industries—about their concerns for moving to cloud computing. A plurality said security was their main concern with cloud computing, while complexity of managing and upfront costs were cited by 31 percent and 15 percent, respectively. In addition, 33 percent said they expected cloud computing to help them improve efficiency within their organizations, while 28 percent said they expected to have a larger resource pool. Another 26 percent said they thought cloud computing would help them make their infrastructure more flexible and agile. However, 70 percent of respondents said they did not believe that the structure of their IT organizations would change after moving to cloud computing.
