Have you seen the latest update from the HHS and FTC on Breach Notification?

Both the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued interim final breach notification rules in the recent days.  “Interim final” means the rule will be effective within 30 days pending further revisions in response to public comment. A security working group associated with the MN e-Health Initiative is preparing comments on both interim final rules to present to the FTC and HHS.  If anyone is interested in providing feedback please contact Rob Ramer rramer@aeritae.com.

Both the FTC and HHS interim final rules with request for comments will be posted on the MN Department of Health website by COB 8/28/2009 at www.health.state.mn.us/e-health/hitech.html.
